If you like sports and exercise, then it may be a good choice to work as a personal fitness coach. Yes, almost more important than this is that you like dealing with people, as it is very important psychological component of this job.
The outer view of this profession may seem easy, simple, and that makes you rich right away. However, in reality it is an uphill task. You need to have a wide variety of skills, which we will discuss later in this article.
Only one training session takes many hours of work and designing the routine depending on what has been done in the previous sessions, which will work in later in contrast with the client’s profile and objectives.
Therefore, if you want to dedicate yourself to this profession, then you should know that you’ll have to spend a lot of time to make it happen. Even you want to take a course in personal fitness training but that does not make you good coach. Only your experience will give you a good knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and so on. And all that you’ll find it in the Bachelor of Science in Physical Activity and Sport.
And leaving aside training, a coach must also have other skills:
1. Make good of what you do
After all, training is health. If you doubt what you do, besides giving insecurity to your customer, you can endanger your health.
You have to know and believe that exercise is not just to be sexy but to have a healthy body. Let them see to give you extra motivation.
2. The physical matter, unfortunately
Many people think that if you do not have an athletic body, then you are not a good trainer. In my class I have met some amazing true teachers with knowledge who simply did not like or did not have time to train for it.
3. Leadership
If you do not have leadership skills then get priority. A trainer during the session is a leader. He is the one who motivates and encourages and model who follow. Make sure your client has to enjoy the session, feel that he has worked and is looking forward to the next day with you.
So if you like exercise and sport I encourage you to be one of those who care about the health of people, a training partner, a mentor for your client, a psychologist, a motivator, a leader, and many cases, a friend.
